In February, I attended Getting the Biggest Bang for Your Marketing Buck seminar at Mid-Plains Community College. Tim O’Conner was the guest speaker and had great information to share. If you ever get the chance to attend one of his seminars, I recommend it!
The seminar covered topics that varied from how to gain new customers, retain your current customers, the different advertising mediums and how to use them most effectively.
Did you know it costs five times as much to gain a new customer as it does to retain a current customer? You can’t afford to reach everyone with your advertising, and you don’t want to either. Not everyone is your ideal customer. Ask yourself, who is my ideal customer? Be very specific. Your advertising dollars can only go so far and you want to use them efficiently.
Great customer service is the key to retaining your current customers. You are the expert. They came to you for your product or service. Make their experience with you top notch, go above and beyond, under-promise and over-deliver.
There are hundreds of ways to get your business’ name out to your potential customers, so how do you know which way is the best? Research, plan, budget and test. It is important to know that this process won’t deliver results over night. It may take weeks, months or even years.
